Android PWA: White space appears after dismissing keyboard via system back button

Current Behavior

In a FlutterFlow PWA running on Android devices, dismissing the on-screen keyboard using the Android system back button causes a white/blank area to remain at the bottom of the screen.

This occurs in a brand new FlutterFlow app with:

• A single page
• Default Column layout
• One TextField

Steps:

1. Tap into the TextField to open the Android keyboard
2. Press the Android system back button to dismiss the keyboard
3. A white space remains at the bottom of the screen

Expected behavior:
The layout should fully resize and restore the original background color after the keyboard is dismissed.

Actual behavior:
The keyboard is dismissed, but the layout does not fully resize, leaving a white blank area at the bottom.

Notes:

• Swiping to dismiss the keyboard does NOT cause this issue
• Tapping outside the TextField does NOT cause this issue
• Issue only occurs when using the Android system back button
• Reproduced on multiple Android devices (Pixel 7, Pixel 9, Samsung S25 Ultra)
• Occurs in PWA mode
• Tested with default Column and also with a Container set to infinite width and height (same result)

- Browser name and version: Chrome (latest)
- Operating system and version affected: Android (Pixel 7, Pixel 9, Samsung S25 Ultra)

Additional Information

This affects basic text input usability.
When the Android system back button is used to dismiss the keyboard, the layout does not fully restore and leaves visible blank space at the bottom of the screen.
This occurs even in a blank project with a single Column and TextField and makes the app feel broken to users.

Hello!!

This is Flutter’s default behavior and not something specific to FlutterFlow.

To resolve it, you’ll need to set resizeToAvoidBottomInset: false on the Scaffold. You can do this by selecting the Scaffold widget and updating the property in its settings.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate the explanation.

I understand this may be Flutter’s default behavior and not intentionally introduced by FlutterFlow. That said, this behavior did not occur previously in my app and began appearing recently without any layout or logic changes on my end.

The issue is user-facing and significantly impacts usability when typing into a TextField (large blank area appearing and persisting after keyboard interaction). I’ve tried the recommended resizeToAvoidBottomInset setting, rebuilding the page on focus change, and multiple layout adjustments, but none resolve the behavior.

Even if this is considered “expected” by Flutter, it creates a real UX regression for deployed FlutterFlow apps. I wanted to document this clearly in case there is a platform-level workaround, best practice, or recent change that I may be missing.

If there’s any additional guidance or known mitigation specific to FlutterFlow projects, I’d really appreciate it.

Having this exact same issue. "Disable Resize To Avoid Bottom Inset" does not fix it.

Edit: I see you mention it happening across Android. Not sure if you tested in IOS. I am not having this issue on IOS (Safari). So far, only on Android (Chrome) running as a web app.

Yes it's only on Android, and is a Flutter issue, and my bad, it was need to be set as True not False, here is the issue in the Flutter Github, 5 years ago, flutter/flutter#83716 (comment)

What's strange is that the problem is new and appeared at the same time as demo-dog.

Here are two screenshots from the Scaffold settings of the new test project, showing “Disable Resize To Avoid Bottom Inset” toggled ON and OFF.

The keyboard issue occurs in both cases.
