Shuts down immediately on Linux with no error message

I'm at a loss here. A black windows pops up for less than a second before closing, and the only output from the terminal is this:

I installed Reign of Chaos using Wine and then pointed all the paths in warsmash.ini to my install. Is there any way to get an error message to at least tell me what went wrong?

So I think the simplest answer here is that Warsmash is mainly built to run on TFT game data, not RoC, but RoC is supported to some extent with a little extra work.

From attempting to replicate your issue, my findings are as follows:

• I installed RoC separately and only pointed the existing paths in warsmash.ini to the new folder. This produces a similar flash of black into a crash similar to your report.
  • This created a log file showing the error at core/assets/Logs/.err.log, with the error that War3x.mpq is missing
• The previous error is basically expected because the default config file is set up for TFT. RoC only has War3.mpq and War3Patch.mpq. I resolved this issue by removing the War3x.mpq and War3Local.mpq from the list, and renumbered the list.
• With the missing MPQs removed from the DataSources list, running the software now launches to a solid black screen with a cursor and FPS counter.
  • Checking the error log here shows many missing .mdx files for the expansion menu.
• To resolve the previous issue, I updated the "GameVersion" setting in warsmash.ini, which defaults to 1 (TFT) to 0 (RoC). However, the config file notes this is not well supported.
• With that change, it now boots to the working RoC menu.
  • Testing part of a melee game, I encountered some odd behaviors: the Human Town Center did not provide food, but the starting peasants didn't cost food, for reasons unknown. My barracks did not complete construction when it reached 100% health, and I had to attack it in order to finish the construction.

Hopefully that gets you started, but know that most Warsmash developers are working from a TFT install, so your experience using RoC may be even worse than expected (and we are still missing many features as-it-is)
