Web Safety 9.6 is released

Hello everyone,

Web Safety 9.6 - web filter and secure web gateway for Linux is now released. The following changes are included into this version:

• The application is now supported on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS only, support for Ubuntu 22.04 is finalized.
• The appliance includes latest version of Squid 7.1.
• Squid statistics pages are redesigned, dropped support for squidclient module (as it was removed from Squid codebase), raw Python requests library is used instead.
• request_entities setting is removed as it is now considered obsolete.
• Application is now based on Django 5.2 LTS version.
• Fixed some validation logic in Root CA certificate uploads (it is now not possible to upload an expired certificate).
• Updated info page of configured subscriptions, it is now possible to see when the subscription was created/downloaded for the last time.
• Added timeouts page with configuration of various Squid timeouts.
• Improved blocking by real file time, the module now can unpack gzipped content encoded object and detect real file type of it.

Please note, license key scheme was updated (now version 6), old license keys for Web Safety less than 9.4 will stop working on 30 October 2027, so it is advisable to start phasing out old existing installations of Web Safety and move to this version with license scheme valid till 24 January 2035. You can contact support@diladele.com to convert your existing license key to the new scheme.

Upgrade steps required are described in the Admin Guide, but ideally you would just deploy a new virtual appliance and import settings from the old one.
