(this was primarily tested on live Cinnamon as well as a fully-updated local installation of Cinnamon as of 2022-07-15; it was also extremely briefly tested on a local installation of Xfce but it was late and I was getting tired)
Describe the bug
Simply put, after pasting files into a Nemo window set to "List View" and then you press the up or the down arrow key, the file that it then highlights (if it even highlights a file at all, e.g. if the file is at the top and you press 'up') ends up being a different file than if you performed the exact same process while in "Compact View" or in "Icon View" (though, for "Icon View", you would instead use the left or right arrow keys in-place of up or down)
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- boot a copy of Mint 21 Cinnamon (whether a live session of a local installation); I believe a local installation of Xfce will also work
- on your desktop, create 10 new blank files named:
- open Nemo navigate to
/home/Documents and make sure it is set to "Icon View"
- copy and paste the files
4 and 5 from your desktop into 'Documents'
- now highlight the files
6, 7, 8, and 9 on your desktop and do a right-click -> Copy
- inside of 'Documents', right-click in a blank area and select "Paste"
- press the left arrow key on your keyboard - notice how it should now be highlighting
8
- in 'Documents', delete the files
6, 7, 8, and 9
- switch Nemo to "Compact View"
- inside of 'Documents', right-click in a blank area and select "Paste"

Expected behavior
List View should behave the same as Compact View, and/or the same as Icon View when taking into account that Icon View uses the left and right arrow keys instead of the up and down arrow keys
Additional context
I had to provide this very lengthy step-by-step process in order to demonstrate, other than the fact that Icon View uses the left and right arrow keys instead of the up and down arrow keys, that Icon View and Compact View behave the same, implying that it is that behavior that is the correct behavior, especially since List View uses the same keys as Compact View yet List View behaves completely different.
