Hi! I'd like to work on this issue. I've reviewed the codebase and have a clear plan: remove the delimiter logic from \ in \ and delegate it to both \ and \ as described in the TODO. I'll also add \ to the \ so templates can conditionally suppress the delimiters. Will open a PR shortly.
