Remove pytype tests?

It is my understanding that - at least for the moment - pytype is not maintained anymore. This means that potential issues in pytype - like the one in #11957 (comment) won't get fixed. I suggest to remove the pytype tests and pytype compatibility guarantees, until this situation changes.

I heard that pytype should still get maintained in the future by a new team, but we'll have to see how that works out in practice.

@rchen152, do you have opinions on what typeshed should do here?

For the record, pytype is not unmaintained. We just need a little time to sort out the details.

This issue was closed more than a year ago. Since then there have been two releases, the last in October 2024, about nine months ago. pytype maintainers are not active here and there are issues with pytype not supporting new features that other type checkers support or PRs such as #13007 that fail on pytype and would require workarounds.

I again suggest to remove pytype support from typeshed for now. We can always resurrect it if the pytype project becomes more active again.

There were a few folks from the Google typing team at PyCon. They said that pytype is essentially unmaintained now and didn't raise any objections when I mentioned the possibility of us removing it from CI. Considering python/typing#2010 has already been merged, I agree that it's now time.
