Checkout Branch time

Hello,

I'm wondering if there'a any away to improve the checkout time, maybe there's any configuration to make?
My experience gives me 4-5 sec for branch checkout in SmartGit and 12-15 sec in SourceGit and I'd love SourceGit to be as fast as SmartGit!
Any ideas?
I'm working with github with pretty huge repository (10K+ branches)

I haven't used SmartGit. If it displays the executed commands, you can compare them with the git commands recorded in Logs of SourceGit to see what the differences are.

Well, I'm not sure SmartGit shows the executed commands, so not sure it's possible to compare the logs.
Anyway, I made a manual test and compared the timelapse reported in the log and manual ones.
If SourceGit gives me around 4 sec for checkout operation:

My manual estimation between the moment I click on the branch and the moment it becomes "bold" takes around twice.
Any advice on that?
I just installed the latest 2026.06 version.

I'm not sure if I've correctly understood what you mean: the Logs window shows that executing git checkout --progress <SOME_BRANCH> took 4-5 seconds, but it took roughly the same amount of time for the local branch tree to be fully updated?

If that's the case, it's possible. Because SourceGit does not directly modify the state of the local branch tree after the command execution is completed; instead, it executes another git command : git branch -l --all -v --format=\"%(refname)%00%(committerdate:unix)%00%(objectname)%00%(HEAD)%00%(upstream)%00%(upstream:trackshort)%00%(worktreepath)\", to refresh the branch tree states.

I've pushed a new commit, that if we are checking out a existing local branch, update the local branch tree in side bar manually instead of RefreshBranches
