Idea 1: I like your idea in exploring social media and mental health. I think it is something that needs to be explored more as social media is increasingly becoming prevalent. I would make your research question more specific. Think about the factors of social media addiction (long hours exposed to the screen, body image, fake news, etc) and how that leads to bad mental health. A more specific research question will benefit your project timeline and how your project is completed. The more specific, the better. Think a little outside the box in collecting data (Instagram stats, TikTok stats, etc) and see if you can expand from the Kaggle dataset. Also, regarding the implications, think about social media privacy and how these results will assist in fighting social media addiction. |

Idea 2: This is another strong project and research question. In collecting data, see if you can expand beyond just Reddit. Maybe, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. Also, think about the baseline data you will be comparing mental health to. How do you know what the people are actually feeling by what they say on the Internet? Maybe, reframe your question so you do not need to know what people are feeling behind the screen. Also, I would double check the terms and conditions of the websites you are scraping. |
