I am interested to see the results of this project. When completing this idea, be sure to be specific in selecting the data. For example, you mentioned that you are selecting "comparable" parishes in TRI summary stats, what is the margin? Just be sure when selecting these parishes to be sure they are actually comparable and have a reasoning behind why you picked the parishes you did. Also, make sure to select a wide variety of parishes across the state -- try to avoid them being too close together in the same area. Try to get parishes with cities and the suburbs. Get variety regarding population, geography, and politics. Additionally, include these metrics into your dataset because these can have an influence on results. While the CDC provides a lot of information regarding health, it would be good to get data from hospitals themselves to see how many people visited regarding lungs and heart problems. This data may be harder to collect due to privacy and ethical reasons, but if collecting this data does not prove to be illegal or unethical, I would look into it. Also, keep in mind and maybe even a statement that, if you cannot find the exact reasons for lung and heart problems, that these problems can result from something other than pollution. I would be clearer in your project presentation that the heath data you are collecting from the CDC or any other website targets just pollution causation. I look forward to seeing the results of your project |
