I tried to fix/update this orphaned package, only to come to the following realizations:

  • Fishnet is now a rust package
  • As such python3-fishnet has no reason to exist
  • This package version was last updated in 2019, and has seen several revisions as python versions were upgraded
  • The package as-is can't download stockfish, as the method for updating stockfish was broken in 2020. The current package is thus not usable.

I believe the proper solution to this is to remove the package, with no prejudice for creating fishnet based on the rust version.

Handy-dandy links and funfacts:

  • Repo is here: https://github.com/lichess-org/fishnet
  • The package got absorbed by lichess-org starting at version 1.16, with the lead developer on the old version (niklasf) still being the lead on this one
  • Version 2 was the one that transitioned to Rust. Nov 29, 2020 was the release date.

@Patrick-Poitras Patrick-Poitras force-pushed the pfp/python3-fishnet branch 2 times, most recently from 8b292cf to 8117b51 Compare May 15, 2026 03:05
